Mr. John Drag, Jr. • school leader
Mr. John Drag, Jr. is the founding principal and current school leader of our three schools. Mr. Drag started our first school Broward Community Charter School in 2004. Since then, the school has grown into two elementary schools and a middle school with a student population that has blossomed from the original 67 to over 700.
Previous to founding BCCS, Drag served as principal of another charter school in Fort Lauderdale and as an assistant principal and teacher for several public schools in Broward County. In 1994 Mr. Drag was recognized as Broward County Teacher of the Year.
Mr. Drag holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance from the University of South Florida and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University. He holds certifications in Elementary Education and Educational Leadership and has been in the field of Education for over twenty-two years. email

Ms. Chana-Kay Pommels • assistant school leader
Chana-Kay Pommels, a six year Broward County educator, has been with the Broward Community Charter family for four years where she served as a Kindergarten teacher, Reading Coach, Interim Principal and is currently the Assistant Principal. She has seventeen and a half years of experience in the field of education which includes ten years of classroom teaching. Throughout her years of teaching, Mrs. Pommels has taught Kindergarten, grade 1, grades 9-12, and a summer camp Reading program for grades K-5.
Mrs. Pommels holds a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Long Island University in New York. She is certified in Elementary Education K-6, Reading K-12, and ESOL Endorsed. Mrs. Pommels is also CRISS and CHAMPs trained. email
