Ms. Chana-Kay Pommels • school leader
Chana-Kay Pommels, a ten year Broward
County educator, has been with the Broward Community Charter family for eight
years where she served as a Kindergarten teacher, Reading Coach, Interim
Principal and now current Principal. She has seventeen and a
half years of experience in the field of education which includes ten years of
classroom teaching. Throughout her years of teaching, Ms. Pommels has
taught Kindergarten, grade 1, grades 6-12, and a summer camp Reading program for
grades K-5.
Ms. Pommels holds a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Long Island University in New York. She also holds a master’s degree in Reading Education from Nova Southeastern University and a specialist in education (Ed.S) degree in Educational Leadership from Barry University. Ms. Pommels is certified in Elementary Education K-6, Reading K-12, and ESOL Endorsed. Ms. Pommels is also CRISS and CHAMPs trained. email

Mrs Shalon Turner, assistant school leader

Shalon Turner is new to Broward Community Charter Family as she arrived in November 2012 from North Carolina to initially serve in the position of ESE Specialist and teacher and now Assistant Principal. Mrs. Turner has been teaching in the field of special education for nine years primarily at the elementary level.
Mrs. Turner holds a bachelor’s degree in American Sign Language from Gardner-Webb University. In addition, Mrs. Turner attended the University of North Carolina, Wilmington to finish requirements for her teaching license in special education. Mrs. Turner also holds a master’s degree in Psychology: Applied Behavior Analysis from Kaplan University. Ms. Turner is certified in Special Education K-12 and is currently working to expand her credentials.
