About Us

Broward Community Charter School opened in 2004 under the leadership of current principal Mr. John Drag, Jr. The school initially offered grades K-3 and has since grown to offer all grades through grade 8. We are the only K-8 charter school in Broward County.

Through their engagement in the arts, young people will begin a lifelong journey of developing their capabilities and discovering ways to contribute to the world around them. Though art our students will have a desire to learn. Learning through art impacts how young people learn to think and also, how they feel and behave.

Art helps children build a value system in which they learn self-discipline, responsibility and develop self-esteem. Students, parents and staff develop "Learning Contracts" to create and maintain portfolios of student's work. The core philosophy of the school reflects the importance of the integration of family and cultural values into the governance and curriculum of the school.

Our teachers are certified in the subject they teach and have skills in one or more visual and/or language arts. Teachers are selected for their willingness to be part of a collegial team dedicated to developing a stimulating learning environment that utilizes technology and language arts. Teachers are creative and flexible; they provide individualized instruction, plan cooperative learning experiences and create interdisciplinary approaches. All staff members assist in developing service-learning experiences.
